Nearpod and Raise.me Curriculum on Financially Planning for College

May 19, 2016Nearpod Team

In honor of College Savings Month, we’re highlighting Nearpod’s Financial Literacy lessons created in partnership with Raise.me, an ed-tech startup that empowers high school students to earn micro-scholarships.

College is expensive and paying for it can seem overwhelming. Often, those who need help the most don’t know where to find it. It’s sad to think that while the class of 2015 was recognized as having the most student debt in U.S. history, an estimated 2.9 billion dollars worth of grants and scholarships go unfilled.

So, a few years ago we combined our interactive teaching platform with the expertise of Raise.me to ensure that students of all ages have the chance to learn the skills needed to plan and pay for college.

The three lessons teach real-world financial literacy skills needed to plan for college. They teach students how to estimate costs and seek out scholarships and other financial resources.

The lesson plans are available for free on Nearpod and address questions like:

  • What are different financial resources available to help me prepare for college?
  • How can I estimate my costs for attending a certain college?
  • What can I do to ensure that I’m getting the most possible funding for college?
