I really enjoy using Nearpod to assess students and help them build background knowledge about topics we study or read about.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #00a8ff;\">Assessing Background Knowledge<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The polling, open-ended question responses, draw it and fill-in-the-blank options when creating activities in Nearpod are helpful when trying to gauge students&#8217; knowledge about a concept before starting a lesson or reading a story. All students can answer the questions to the best of their ability and <a href=\"https:\/\/nearpod.com\/formative-assessment?oc=assessbuildblog22&amp;utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=nearpod&amp;utm_campaign=assessbuildblog22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">feedback is provided<\/a> for the teacher instantly\/in real-time. The shy students who are afraid to raise their hand now have the ability to participate and share their experiences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3433\" src=\"https:\/\/nearpod.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Screen2BShot2B2018-02-092Bat2B9.21.142BAM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1259\" height=\"336\"><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #00a8ff;\">Building Background Knowledge<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There are many effective ways educators can use Nearpod to build background knowledge. One of my favorites is <a href=\"https:\/\/nearpod.com\/virtual-field-trips?oc=assessbuildblog22&amp;utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=nearpod&amp;utm_campaign=assessbuildblog22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nearpod VR field trips<\/a> that will take students to anywhere in the world, including deep into the ocean!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6027 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/nearpod.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Screen2BShot2B2018-02-092Bat2B7.344.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"318\" height=\"500\"><\/p>\n<p>Here are some specific ways to leverage VR across the K-12 curriculum for test prep! You can ask students to:<\/p>\n<p>1. List adjectives they see.<br \/>\n2. Describe the image using their five senses.<br \/>\n3. What 2D and 3D shapes do they see.<br \/>\n4. Design a shelter that would protect you in this climate.<br \/>\n5. Write a narrative based on the picture.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nearpod.com\/nearpod-3d?oc=assessbuildblog22&amp;utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=nearpod&amp;utm_campaign=assessbuildblog22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nearpod 3D<\/a> is also great to make concepts visible and interactive for students. Below is an example of an animal cell. The simulations really prompt them to ask <i>&#8220;Why is this happening?&#8221;,<\/i> which can be paired with discussions about&nbsp;cause &amp; effect.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6030 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/nearpod.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Screen2BShot2B2018-02-092Bat2B9.400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"730\" height=\"456\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Having the ability to add and view videos right within the platform is a wonderful way to help students build their background knowledge!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6031 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/nearpod.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Screen2BShot2B2018-02-092Bat2B9.42.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"730\" height=\"438\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, the <a href=\"https:\/\/nearpod.com\/collaborate?oc=assessbuildblog22&amp;utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=nearpod&amp;utm_campaign=assessbuildblog22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Collaborate Board <\/a>is a very powerful feature!
